A group buy is a popular way for members of a community to commission products that would normally require a minimum order quantity far beyond the reach of individuals or small groups. Group buys usually have a single organizer who handles communication with the manufacturer, collecting and disbursing funds and shipping of the final products to individual members. Some group buy organizers add a small fee to compensate for their efforts, some trade their time in exchange for the product being commissioned and others simply run them without compensation.
